How the power of design can transform a traditional business book into an eyecathcing and highly memorable resource…..
When it comes to creating powerful designs for clients, we’ve proven ourselves as a leading brain trust. And it seems that our reputation has now extended to the world business publications, as we were recently hired by Adorno & Yoss, the country’s largest minority-owned law firm, to design a new book written by the firm’s chairman, Hank Adorno.
Tossing aside the rules of convention when it comes to traditional business tomes, we designed the cover of Oye!, with its deliberate and bold colors streaming across the front, to grab readers’ attention. Inside the cover, you won’t find paragraph upon boring paragraph of text. Instead, you will find hard-hitting statistics impeccably presented with highlighted sentences interspersed with color, informational statements and quotes. Readers are drawn not only to the highlighted information, but also to the many three-dimensional charts, tinted percentages fading in and out of the copy and sidebars in orange, which has become the book’s signature color. And all the while, the color scheme we’ve used throughout Oye! evokes a semblance of Hispanic authenticity, in keeping with the book’s underlying theme - the rising influence of Hispanics in the United States.
Had it not been for our design team’s ability to create commanding and effective graphics, illustrations and diagrams, the book, Oye! What’s a Hispanic? could easily have gotten lost in the already over-burgeoning category of business publications, replete with one-dimensional graphs, serif fonts and chapters of soporific black copy. But as a result of the powerful, relevant and meaningful designs we used throughout the book, Oye! is most definitely a dramatic departure from the plethora of those you’ll find lining the shelves of the business section today.
But don’t just take our word for it! Francisco Gonzalez, National Client Services Group Director at Adorno & Yoss had this to say… “At our initial meeting with Right Brain, we weren’t sure of what we wanted....we told them that the book had to convey a message in a simple and easy to understand manner....Right Brain was able to come up with right balance of graphics and layout in a way that reaches our target audience....Corporate America's CEO's”.
At Right Brain, we recognized the enormous impact that design and color would bring to this project. Having produced award-winning designs and developing brands for nearly twelve years, our team has an instinctual flair for knowing how a company can improve their brand through design. “The power of design cannot be underestimated. Design creates differentiation and an emotional connection to your customer or audience. Design is what differentiates you and your brand from anyone else, whether it’s services, products or even books”.
But ultimately, Oye! What’s a Hispanic is not just a book about Hispanics, filled with fancy colors and graphics. Instead, it may also be one of the few multimedia business books available today. Alongside the printed version, we also turned Oye! into an e-book using Adobe’s Flashpaper technology, making the book available to millions everywhere – instantly. And because of the book’s online delivery, since it’s launch in early November, it has become a valuable online resource for anyone seeking the most up-to-date information and statistics on Hispanics in the United States today.
